The series of paintings “Shift & Reverse” is another developed phase of the artist’s research and pictorial interpretation of the propagandistic images produced in Albania during the former communist regime. The paintings of this series entitled “Shift” deepens the research on the decorative aspect of the source images. Their nature is emphasized during the appropriation(painting) process by visual effects of distortion and shift in focus. Opposed to the colorful utopian images of parades, the “Reverse” paintings are rendered in black&white like huge negatives almost ghostlike within the limits of reality and fiction. They represent images of military training and tactics . An absurd reality produced by the communist regime by creating a sense of alert and readiness to fight against an imaginary enemy.
